Arsenal Beat Man City 2-1 in Captain Alex Scott's Final Home Game
Man City’s hopes of claiming the Women’s Super League title were pretty much dashed on Saturday with a 2-1 loss to Arsenal, leaving Chelsea well ahead at the top of the table with just two games of the season to go.
Nadia Nadim gave City the lead in the 11th minute exploiting a slip from goalie Sari van Veenendaal, but they couldn’t hold it and second-half strikes from Arsenal’s Beth Mead and Danielle van de Donk sealed the win.
It was a momentous game for Arsenal’s captain Alex Scott, who first joined the club in 1992 at the age of eight and has predominantly played for the club since. Scott was sent on in the final moments of her last home game for the team for one last appearance before retirement.
